Budapest Pride Parade to be held on a new date
Next year, the 32nd Budapest Pride Parade will take place on a new date, May 22, 2027, the organizers announced to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) on Tuesday.
According to the statement, after reviewing this year’s experiences, the organizers decided to hold Hungary’s largest LGBTQ community event earlier than in previous years, in May 2027.
They added that in recent years, the march has typically been held in late June. However, during the 31st Budapest Pride Parade, the extreme heat placed a significant strain on both participants and organizers.
By scheduling the event for May, they hope to reduce the likelihood of people having to spend several hours outdoors in extreme summer heat, the statement said.
They also explained that the change of date would bring another new feature in 2027: the march will open the so-called Community Festival. Following the parade, participants and visitors will be able to meet and celebrate at cultural, community, and professional events over the course of three weeks.
The organizers stated that in 2027, they would once again march and organize the festival to demonstrate that:
“LGBTQ people are part of Hungarian society, and we all have the right to live freely, safely, and authentically in Hungary.”
