The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office has suspended criminal proceedings for a period of six months and referred the case to mediation regarding a suspect charged with the misdemeanor of embezzlement.

According to the decision, the suspect had been employed as a barber at a business entity since July 9, 2025. However, his employer was dissatisfied with his performance and terminated his employment at the end of March 2026.

Despite this, on April 27, 2026, the suspect appeared at his former workplace in Debrecen and took several specialized hair-cutting tools owned by his employer, valued at HUF 173,000.

The suspect—whose actions constituted the misdemeanor of embezzlement—confessed to committing the crime and handed over the hair-cutting tools to the investigating authority following the launch of the investigation. Furthermore, both the victim and the suspect requested and consented to referring the case to mediation.

The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office examined the legal conditions and established that mediation could be applied in this criminal proceeding. Consequently, by official decision, it suspended the criminal procedure for six months and referred the matter to mediation.

If the mediation process proves successful, the district prosecutor’s office will issue a resolution terminating the criminal proceedings against the suspect.
