A woman faces charges after a car crash that injured a passenger on the road between Hajdúsámson and Debrecen
The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against a woman for negligently causing a road accident after she lost control of her car while negotiating a bend, crossed the crash barrier and the vehicle overturned onto its roof.
According to the indictment, around noon on October 26, 2024, the defendant was driving a passenger car from Hajdúsámson towards Debrecen on Main Road 471, with the victim travelling in the front passenger seat wearing a seat belt.
At the time and place of the accident, visibility was good, weather conditions were ideal and traffic was moderate. As the woman approached a gentle right-hand bend, she exceeded the speed limit applicable to the main road. She also made a driving error, causing the car to skid and drift towards the crash barrier separating the two carriageways. The vehicle crossed the barrier and came to a stop on the opposite carriageway, overturned onto its roof.
As a result of the accident, the passenger sustained injuries that took more than eight days to heal, while the defendant also suffered minor injuries.
The driver violated several provisions of the Hungarian Highway Code, resulting in the accident and the passenger’s serious injuries.
The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office has submitted an indictment to the Debrecen District Court seeking a penal order for the offence of negligently causing a road accident. The prosecutor’s office has proposed that the court impose a fine based on the case documents, without holding a trial.
Photographs taken during the investigating authorities’ inspection show the accident scene and the damaged vehicle.
